Three Dutch alpinists killed in avalanche in Swiss Alps

The Royal Dutch Climbing and Mountaineering Association has announced that three Dutch alpinists were killed by an avalanche in the Swiss Alps last Friday. The NKBV writes about this that this accident probably happened during an ascent of the Grosshorn mountain via the north face. The three who died were all very experienced climbers and worked as climbing instructors in the Alps.

“As it now appears, an avalanche occurred during the descent, which killed them. Meanwhile, the rescue services have recovered the bodies and, after identification, they will be repatriated to the Netherlands,” the mountain sports association writes. NKBV chairman Peter Valkenburg calls the accident “a great loss for our association. Not only were they good and experienced alpinists, but above all involved volunteers and nice people. We will miss them.”
