After a great season, there is a good chance that Feyenoord will have to say goodbye to a number of strongholds. Journalist Valentijn Driessen announces in a De Telegraaf podcast which three players he thinks are suitable for making the transition to the English top.
He mentions captain Orkun Kokcü as the first suggestion, and doesn’t even have to explain why he thinks that. A little later the columnist comes up with two other names. “Lutsharel Geertruida and Mats Wieffer. They could handle that. But it will of course take some getting used to in the beginning,” Driessen begins.
“Wieffer is a player like Dirk Kuyt, who just picks up at every higher level. That means you can play football. So why shouldn’t he (Premier League top clubs, ed.) not be able to keep up?” Driessen continues, who has a high opinion of Wieffer. “It will all go a bit faster, but he also picked it up at Feyenoord and before that at Excelsior. So I would have confidence in that,” explains the journalist.
Geertruida was also mentioned by Driessen as a player who can compete in the English top. “Geertruida is just a power person. When you see how many positions he can play. He is now with the Dutch national team, so I think he will be able to hold his own there as well,” said the columnist. “It is not for nothing that he is also mentioned at FC Barcelona in the rumor mill,” adds Mike Verweij.
