The Berks History Center (BHC) has its popular new Pa. We are excited to bring the Pennsylvania Dutch language and culture back to Dutch class participants. The summer 2023 semester begins on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 and lasts eight weeks. BHC has two Pa. Offers Dutch course levels with in-person or online options. Online classes are conducted via Zoom and in-person classes are held at the BHC Historical Society Museum, 940 Center Avenue, Reading, Pa., 19601.
Pennsylvania Dutch is an American language that originated from the immigration of German speakers to colonial Pennsylvania. Father. Although the Dutch language is not as widespread as it used to be, the tradition is still supported by native and non-native speakers. Dad at BHC. Enrolling in a Dutch class offers a fun opportunity to celebrate and preserve this rich cultural heritage.
In the autumn of 2022, BHC will offer private primary education. Started offering Dutch lessons. During the winter semester of 2023, BHC expanded its offerings to include online classes. Due to growing demand, the Institute has again expanded the program for the 2023 Summer Semester with introductory and advanced courses and introduced participants to two new classroom instructors.
Course instructors include BHC Assistant Director Bradley Smith of Schafferstown, Pa., Schoonersville, Pa.; Native and former faculty member of the University of Pennsylvania, Kevin Sterner and Ethan Rode, a professional linguist from Mohnton, Pa.
“With more than 130 students enrolled in our winter 2023 classes, we are overwhelmed with the public interest in this program,” said Smith. “We are excited to offer a new semester of courses, including brand new interdisciplinary classes.”
“BHC is also very grateful to our new instructors, Kevin Sterner and Ethan Rhode,” continued Smith. “Both are from Dad. Dutch families and have studied and practiced the language for years. They will be an incredible resource for our new and returning students.

Classes are $70 for BHC members (individual level members and above) and $140 for non-members.
