ADO Den Haag o21 has closed the spring competition with a 3-2 victory over PEC Zwolle o21. Due to this defeat, the Zwollenaren have been relegated to Division 2.

Under a radiant sun, the last competition match of ADO Den Haag o21 started in the Zuiderpark in The Hague. The team from The Hague was already certain of retention in the Eerste Divisie, but that would also be closed with a victory.
For the visitors, the curtain had already fallen last Tuesday, after FC Twente / Heracles Academy o21 lost at home. PEC Zwolle o21 could only avoid relegation if they won themselves and FC Twente/Heracles Academy o21 lost to FC Groningen o21. And then there was also a negative goal difference of -5 to be made up.
ADO Den Haag o21, the team of trainer Giovanni Franken, started the game very sharply and that quickly resulted in opportunities. Onur Demir sent Elijah Velland into the depths and the attacker waited just a second too long to shoot, allowing goalkeeper Wouter van Kouwen to tap the ball to a corner. From that corner by Finn de Bruin, Nick Broekhuizen headed the ball just wide. The back ball had hardly been taken when the next chance presented itself. Demir placed the ball on De Bruin and his lob outwitted the very tall goalkeeper Van Kouwen. After four minutes the score was 1-0.
ADO Den Haag o21 remained the parent and after ten minutes the score even became 2-0 after De Bruin sent Demir away with a deep ball. Demir neatly tapped the ball into the goal at the far corner. At that moment Almere City o21 was in great mood, given the message on twitter about the Hague standings. The match image remained the same with a dominating team from The Hague where only the hits were not forthcoming. Just before half an hour, referee Eric van der Vaart saw a penalty kick in a normal duel between Gylermo Siereveld and Riley Reemnet. Denzel Kuijpers did not miss out on that golden opportunity: 2-1.
Less than six minutes later, the score was even level, after the defense of The Hague was tampered with and the same Kuijpers was able to score the equalizer from close range: 2-2. Both teams had one more chance in the last eight minutes. After a quick Zwolse counter, goalkeeper David van de Riet managed to catch Kuijpers’ effort again. On the other hand, the offside Demir let the ball roll for the emerging Robyn Esajas. His cross ended up with Velland, who didn’t hit the ball quite right.
At halftime, no fewer than four players were left behind in the dressing room on the side of The Hague. Just like the first half, the yellow-greens came out dominant. Calvin Gustina set Demir completely free on the left and he played the ball deep to Sofyan El Hannoudi. The substitute’s bet ended in the side net. After an hour of play, both teams were evenly matched and there were also chances on both sides. ADO Den Haag o21 goalkeeper Van de Riet had to save twice. First he grabbed a header from Kuijpers from a Reemnet cross. A few minutes later, the same Reemnet shot a free kick directly at goal. Van de Riet just managed to punch the ball away, but the rebound was shot hard by Thom Olde Weghuis. On the goal line, Emre Ates saved with the head.
Failure
On the other hand, it was a quick lunge from Broekhuizen, who extended the ball to Rafael Struick. From outside the penalty area, the Hague-Indonesian attacker managed to place the ball over the goalkeeper with a lob, but the ball ended up on the wrong side of the post for the Hagenaars.
After a free kick by Broekhuizen, there was a scrimmage in front of the Zwolle goal. Siereveld managed to get the ball back in front of the goal and Abdel Belarbi’s effort ended against the underside of the crossbar. The winning goal was the perfect example of the Hague style of play. The opponent was lured out of defense by playing the ball around in the back. When Siereveld suddenly played the ball deep on the three attackers from The Hague who were one on one. It was El Hannoudi who was faster than his direct opponent and passed the ball to Demir for an empty goal. The attacker from The Hague knew what to do with this golden opportunity and celebrated his second and ADO’s winning goal with his mother on the sidelines: 3-2.

Because of this victory, ADO Den Haag o21 finished in a neat fourth place in the competition.
The final score looks like this: 1. Almere City FC o21 14-34, 2. De Graafschap o21 14-27, 3. Feyenoord o21 14-26, 4. ADO Den Haag o21 14-20, 5. FC Twente/ Heracles Academy o21 14-17, 6. C Groningen o21 14-16, 7. PEC Zwolle o21 14-11, 8. NAC Breda 14-10.
Almere City FC o21 champion and due to the relegation of PEC Zwolle o21 also national champion o21.
Because Jong FC Volendam has finished in a relegation place in the Second Division, no promotion / relegation matches will be played and Almere City FC o21 will be promoted directly to the Jack’s League, or the Second Division and will play against Scheveningen, among others, next season. NAC Breda o21 and PEC Zwolle o21 both relegate to Division 2. Go Ahead Eagles (Champion Division 2) and SC Cambuur Leeuwarden o21 (runner-up Division 2) are promoted.
