Martin Scorsese is back with the first trailer for it Killers of the Flower Moona very expensive film based on a true history chapter, starring Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro.
Martin Scorsese has since The Irishman mainly engaged in documentary and television work. In October, the 80-year-old filmmaker will happily remind us again how he owes his reputation as a bona fide Hollywood legend. Then comes Killers of the Flower Moon out. A new drama film from the grandmaster, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
Killers of the Flower Moon
The film follows members of the Osage tribe of Oklahoma who are murdered under mysterious circumstances in the 1920s, leading to a major investigation by the newly established FBI, based on a book by David Grann with a script that co-written by Eric Roth. If you The Irishman thought it was too long at three hours and 29 minutes, then we have bad news for you. Killers of the Flower Moon lasts three hours and 26 minutes. Just three minutes shorter. After years of brief updates on Scorsese’s passion project, you certainly get your money’s worth. At least, if you see pure minutes of playing time as an indication of value.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro
Anyway, back to the movie itself! Leonardo DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart, the nephew of powerful rancher William Hale (Robert De Niro). Burkhart marries an Osage woman, Mollie, played by Lily Gladstone. Soon after, several members of the Osage Nation are murdered under mysterious circumstances. The murders spark a major FBI investigation, and soon Burkhart and Hale come into their own. We won’t spoil the rest, but a further cool detail is that the reborn Brendan Fraser also plays a role in Killers of the Flower Moonas attorney WS Hamilton, who assists Hale.
Apple as a lender
After years of casting news and sparse updates, Apple TV+ now has the first trailer for Scorsese’s new epic released. Yes, Killers of the Flower Moon becomes an Apple TV+ Original. That’s fantastic news, because without Apple as a backer, the pricey film might not have existed: Scorsese has struggled for years to find traditional studios that can and want to finance his very expensive prestige projects.
Fear not, however: Apple will also provide the film with a cinema release, although nothing is yet known about any specific plans for the Netherlands. The first trailer is only 90 seconds long and has no dialogue, just a voiceover from DiCaprio’s character. An ominous voice-over, we must say. “Greed is an animal that hungers for blood. Scorsese is back, and that’s great news.
From the cinema to the book
Killers of the Flower Moon will be in cinemas from October 6. Already curious about the true story? Then you can already purchase the book on which Martin Scorsese bases his new film, with exactly the same name as the blockbuster: Killers of the Flower Moon.
