Get a lot of Samsung phones when we speak the May update: among others, the Galaxy S20, Z Flip 4, Z Fold 4, and the Galaxy A23 are next.
Galaxy S20, Z Flip and Fold 4 update May 2023
We just wrote about the May update of the Galaxy A54, which includes the new Image clipper feature to that device. On most Galaxy phones, however, the update is a bit more boring. For example, the latest patch also rolls out today to the Galaxy S20, S20 +, and S20 Ultra – without further frills. Just like on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4.
For the S20 series, a package of roughly 200MB is ready to be downloaded. Firmware version G98**XXSGHWD4 does nothing but install the May 2023 patch. The same thing happens on the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4, although the download with – respectively – firmware versions F936BXXS2CWD9 and F721BXXS2CWD9 is a bit larger: about 350MB .
On all devices, the patch contains more than 50 fixes for the Android system, and more than 20 for Samsung’s One UI interface. On the S20 models, the security of the Exynos modem software is being worked on, and on all phones, the ThemeManager, Knoxand GearManager apps updated.
On the S20 series, the update is now immediately available at unbranded devices in the Netherlands and Belgium, but not yet on branded models from Vodafone and T-Mobile. You also have to wait a while with a Galaxy S20 FE. The update for the Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 is now available at unbranded models across Europe.
Galaxy A23 Update May 2023
And then there is also the Galaxy A23. That device was also neatly updated to Android 13 in recent months, and One UI 5 and 5.1. And now the device gets a more than 270 MB update to firmware A236BXXS3CWD4. The May patch does the same as on other Samsung devices. But the update does something else: confirm that the device unfortunately does not have a Image clipper gets. Apparently Samsung draws the line here. The A53 and A33 were given the function, the A23 was not.
Just like on the Flip and Fold, the update for the Galaxy A23 is now available on unbranded devices in Europe.
