In Ukraine, the destruction of tank munitions containing depleted uranium has released a radioactive cloud. That cloud is on its way to Western Europe, says Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev.
Britain supplied the ammunition for the British Challenger tanks to Ukraine. Patrushev lashed out at the United States, which provides “aid” to other countries, after which the recipients of that “aid” suffer as a result.

‘Assisted’
“They also ‘helped’ Ukraine in this way, putting pressure on satellite states to supply depleted uranium munitions. Its destruction has resulted in a radioactive cloud drifting towards Western Europe. They have measured elevated radiation levels in Poland,” said the Russian security chief.
According to Moscow, this is an ammunition depot in the city of Khmelnytsky that was destroyed last Saturday during a Russian missile attack.

Risk
Russia warned that the use of depleted uranium ammunition poses a risk to public health and the environment. Moscow based this on studies conducted in countries such as Serbia and Iraq, where such munitions have been used before.
Uranium is a heavy metal, and is chemically toxic and slightly radioactive. It is a proven carcinogen in humans. Particles of uranium or uranium oxide released in an explosion can be inhaled by anyone exposed or cause environmental pollution.
