Edson Álvarez seems to have played his last home match for Ajax. After the home game against FC Utrecht (3-1 victory), the Mexican midfielder-defender took the time to thank the audience in the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Sunday afternoon, which was very much like a farewell.
Among other things, the honorary stand of Ajax, with general director Edwin van der Sar and technical director Sven Mislintat, applauded Álvarez when he left the field. The 25-year-old Mexican is high on the wish list of Borussia Dortmund, among others. Kees Kwakman does not expect Ajax to stop Álvarez from leaving in the summer. “He will be one of the guys to be sold,” the analyst predicts.

“I think that should happen, because Ajax wants to invest again,” continues Kwakman, who expects Álvarez to be one of the few Ajax players who will be able to fill the club’s coffers this summer with an outgoing transfer. “They will undoubtedly want to get rid of a Calvin Bassey like that, but what do you get for that? I think that such an Álvarez can still generate money.”
