No unlimited drinking of tea: so many cups maximum

You wake up and start the day with a large cup of tea as standard. Is that the first and the last? Certainly not! At lunch you drink one more and you end the day on the couch with another cup. Ever wondered if drinking all that tea is good for you? We researched it for you!

A refresher course on tea

Tea is available in many varieties. For example, you can go for a green tea, a black tea or a herbal tea, such as rooibos or chamomile. However, this last category may not officially be called a ‘tea’. This species is not made from the tea plant Camellia sinensis.

However, this is a requirement to be designated an official tea. Herbal tea will help you with your daily fluid intake, but it won’t give you the benefits of green or black tea.

Benefits of green or black tea

Good news for you as a tea lover! The drink has many benefits for your health. Not surprising that it is therefore advised to drink tea daily. One of the benefits is a reduced risk of stroke.

It would also lower your blood pressure and LDL cholesterol. The latter results in a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. What tea is not good for…

Fact or fiction: caffeine in tea

Fact! Tea contains caffeine, but is referred to as theine. Although it is the same substance, a cup of coffee contains much more of this substance. For comparison, a 125-milliliter cup of green or black tea contains about 30 milligrams of caffeine.

A cup of coffee with the same content contains 85 milligrams of caffeine. So what about caffeine in herbal teas? That is indeed a myth! This type of tea does not contain this substance.

You can drink a maximum of this many cups of tea

Tea without sugar is in the Wheel of Five. A good way to live a healthy life. The Nutrition Center advises adults to three cups of black or green tea a day to drink. At this amount you will experience the health benefits and you will not consume too much caffeine.

Herbal tea is not included in this advice, because it does not contain the right substances to experience the same health benefits. So it’s time to supplement your tea collection with green and heavy teas!
