The Dutch phenomenon Kevin van Veen is close to a great record. The Motherwell striker has been racking up goals and has now scored nine times in a row in the Scottish league, meaning he needs one more goal to match the illustrious Mark Viduka.
Kevin van Veen: ‘Mark Viduka, who is that?’
In his last nine matches, Van Veen scored at least once and that is a first at Motherwell, at least since the Second World War. If we look at the entire Scottish league, the 31-year-old goal getter has to tolerate one more goal machine in front of him, Mark Viduka, who scored ten times in a row for Celtic. Viduka made 43 appearances for the Australian national team.
However, when Van Veen went through the BBC confronted with that tidbit, he replied, “Sorry, but I have no idea who he is. Sorry I don’t know him, but it’s great to be here and score nine games in a row. That means I help the team. I try to keep going.”
Yet the Dutchman does not want to make it too big: “It was another match and another goal. I’m going home in a bit, probably hugging my wife, making some food and watching Sportscene.”
Player of the Year?
It was recently announced that Van Veen can become Player of the Year in Scotland this season: “It is a great honor to be nominated. It’s been a tough season, but the team has always stayed together. I want to thank all my teammates, staff and fans who have helped me achieve my goals. The support I received has been incredible. I wouldn’t have been nominated without them.”
