Google Must Pay Fine For Misleading Pixel Ads

Google must pay a $8 million fine for using misleading ads for the Pixel 4, Reuters writes. It specifically concerns the use of radio advertisements in the US state of Texas.

To promote the Pixel 4, Google hired radio DJs in Texas who talked about their own positive experiences with the Pixel 4. However, it now appears that these DJs did not receive the Google Pixel 4 at all and that they simply read a script that provided by Google. It is unclear exactly how many advertisements are involved.

Ken Paxton, the Texan attorney general, said in a statement that Google’s ads “made claims that were completely false, and this settlement holds the company accountable for lying to Texans for its own financial gain“. Google also issued a statement saying it is pleased the matter has been closed.
