Dutch traditions attract thousands of visitors to Oranjestad | Siouxland Pride

ORANGE CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Tulips are in full bloom in northwest Iowa. Oranjestad Tulip Festival. This is the 82nd year in which Dutch heritage is celebrated with costumes, dancing, food and more.

The three-day festival attracts thousands of people from all over the world.

“Each year just gets better and better and we arrive as 3 great years of the Tulip Festival,” said Amanda Lemke, artist and information officer for the Tulip Festival. “We had a record number of meetings and it was great fun to see the city come to life.”

Amanda Lemke works at the information stand for the festival and grew up in the center of Orange. KCAU 9 asked Lemke what her favorite part of the Tulip Festival was.

“Well, I’m in the night show, so my favorite part of the Tulip Festival is always the shows we do in the evening, but also the food,” said Lemke.

The Night Show Every day of the festival is a play or musical performance. This year’s night event Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. While many of the Tulip Festival’s activities are free, tickets for the nightly event must be purchased at Orange City Town Hall.
