Definitely no play-offs after hopeless defeat at Jong Ajax

ADO Den Haag will definitely grab promotion next to the play-offs this season. Dick Advocaat’s team swallowed a 4-2 defeat on a visit to Jong Ajax, so that the gap with the top eight can no longer be closed.

With two rounds to go, ADO has collected 47 points, seven less than number eight VVV-Venlo. Even if the residents of The Hague win the last two games of the season against FC Dordrecht and Jong AZ, they will not be able to get a ticket for the playoffs. For ADO, a losing finalist in the play-offs last year, the disaster season ends on a minor note.

Young Ajax was the better team at De Toekomst from the first whistle. The home team dominated and got chances to open the score, especially through Kristian Hlynsson, but it remained with pinpricks. After nineteen minutes, however, the predominance was still expressed in a hit. Sonny Stevens saved on a blast from Lorenzo Lucca, but Hlynsson was alert to score the opening goal.

Red card Rodriguez
Joël Zwarts had the chance to equalize the score ten minutes before the break, but his effort went over. It was on the other side. From a free kick, Donny Warmerdam headed the 2-0 on the scoreboard. With that, the game seemed to be decided before the break. Shortly after the break, captain Boy Kemper brought back the tension with a striking header, but ADO was unable to push through. Especially since right back Guillem Rodriguez pulled a broken Ajax player to the ground and was penalized with a red card.

The resistance in The Hague subsequently turned out to be broken. After a flashy attack, Hlynsson shot his second goal of the evening on the scoreboard via the inside of the post and now really closed the game. Mika Godts completed the Hague drama with the 4-1 twenty minutes before the end. Thomas Verheydt made another contribution with the 4-2, but his hundredth Kitchen Champion Division goal was only one for the statistics.

Surprises in basic ADO
Lawyer surprised in his starting line-up. Jordy Wehrmann last played as a substitute against FC Eindhoven on February 13 and has remained on the bench ever since. In Amsterdam, Wehrmann, just like Ajax mercenary Max de Waal, suddenly appeared at the kick-off. Finn van Breemen, coveted by FC Basel, was on the bench, so Tyrese Asante returned to the starting line-up. Ricardo Kishna also had to make do with a reserve role when visiting his old club.
