If there’s a hint of truth to the rumor mill, a brand new iMac is coming later this year! However, there are a few things that really need improvement in Apple’s upcoming all-in-one PC.
Apple doesn’t often announce products before they appear, so officially we don’t know anything yet. But if we are to believe Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, there will be a new iMac model with an M3 soc under the hood in the second half of 2023. Hopefully we will see the next improvements.
iMac 2023: Upgrades we hope for
There are a number of upgrades we look forward to. Here they come.
#1 More ports
All-in-one PCs are designed to be minimalist, but Apple may have gone a little overboard with the lack of ports. The entry-level 2021 24-inch iMac only has two Thunderbolt 3 ports.
Although two more USB-C connections are added to the more expensive models, it is a bit on the low side for anyone who wants to use the device for creative purposes or work. More ports please!
#2 Height adjustable
Extra ports can be created by means of a USB hub, but as a consumer you cannot change that much about the ergonomics of the iMac. The screen of the 2021 version can tilt, but that’s about it.
We like the ability to adjust the height without having to use a stack of books. The option to rotate the screen horizontally is also missing, which is a major loss in our opinion. Apple, are you listening?
#3 Cheaper iMac
With a price tag from 1,570 euros, the 24-inch iMac from 2021 is not exactly cheap. For a small upgrade to a slightly more powerful GPU and more ports, you have already lost at least 1,800 euros.
In addition, in our opinion, the performance is not completely in balance with the price. As far as we are concerned, the entry-level configuration in particular should therefore become considerably cheaper. Is a price around 1,000 euros really too much to ask?
#4 Bigger screen
It seems that the iMac will again get a 24-inch screen this year. Although that is big enough for many people, we would also like to see a 27-inch model (or even larger).
It gives more space to work with and is large enough to easily place multiple windows side by side for ultimate productivity. Watching Ted Lasso and other cool Apple series is also a lot more pleasant.
#5 Face ID
The mid-range and high-end 2023 iMac models come with a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID. What we really want to see in Apple’s next All-in-One PC, though, is Face ID.
Plenty of Windows PCs have been providing this feature for years, but Apple once again lags behind when it comes to facial recognition login. As far as we are concerned, it is high time to change that.
